Uma Kathyayini & Javali Ramanath have worked as engineers with the state government of Karnataka. After retirement the duo started GHVS welfare trust to provide financial assistance to poor but meritorious students in Gubbi, a township around 90 km from Bengaluru as well as within Bengaluru.
“I, Umakathyayini, used to work as an Executive Engineer (EL) with the state government power sector and opted for voluntary retirement 3 years back after 31 years of service. My husband and colleague, Javali Ramanath, is working as a Superintending Engineer (El) in the same organisation. We opted out to have our own biological children to help the needy children in general.
We have started an educational and social welfare trust called GHVS trust on 22-3-2018 in my native place called Gubbi to empower rural children with education, personality development, etc., and to give medical aid. We have been conducting activities related to this.
The hardships, we faced during our studying years prompted us to start our own trust by investing 20% of my retirement benefits. We would like to pledge not only 50% but entire earning of our lifetime to this cause. When we are gone from here, what right we have on what we have earned. We feel that this is the best way to give back to society.”
